This week we are celebrating Healthcare Simulation Week! Healthcare Simulation is a learning tool that recreates a healthcare environment to allow persons to experience a realistic healthcare event. The purpose of healthcare simulation is to teach new skills, refresh old ones and improve the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
Our Practical Nursing program uses simulation to help gain real-world experience, especially in situations they may not see often in clinicals.
One simulation our PN students use is an OB Sim. There are two types of OB Sims students learn through:
1. Labor & delivery
2. Pre-eclamptic seizure and postpartum hemorrhage
Using both of these gives students a chance to care for a patient on all levels of their delivery journey. These sims particularly prepare students for their entrance exam to RN programs since OB is usually one of the lower scoring sections on these exams. Plus, most students say the OB sims are their favorite!
