Windridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was the largest nursing home in Ottawa County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports.

The facility offered 100 beds in total, outpacing the county’s first-quarter average by 25 beds. On average, 37.7 residents received care at Windridge throughout this period.

With an overall CMS rating of 4 out of 5, Windridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surpassed the 2.7 statewide average for nursing homes in Oklahoma.

During the first quarter, Higher Call Nursing Center was the county’s second largest home with 86 beds, followed by Miami Nursing Center, LLC, with 82 beds.

Windridge reported zero fines and penalties for the period ending in the first quarter of 2026.

Ottawa County was home to five for-profit nursing facilities at that time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the population of older adults nationwide is growing as younger age segments shrink. Between 2020 and 2024, there was a 13% increase among those 65 and older, while the number of people under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The older adult population has risen rapidly in the past 100 years, escalating from 4.9 million in 1920 to above 61 million by 2024.

A study from 2021 indicates that almost half of those 65 and older—around 28 million Americans—may need long-term services and supports, and more than a third are projected to eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
